Position Title: Donor Relations Coordinator (Part-Time)

Location: Iowa City, Iowa (on-site preferred; occasional hybrid work will be considered)
Reports to: School Director
FTE: 0.5 FTE Exempt, 20 hrs/week
Compensation: $36,000–$42,000 annually, commensurate with experience

About the Preucil School of Music

Founded in 1975, the Preucil School of Music is a nonprofit community music school rooted in the Suzuki philosophy, offering instruction from early childhood through advanced levels. We are committed to nurturing ability and character through excellence in music education in a family-centered learning environment. Our programs serve hundreds of families annually and include private instruction, group classes, ensembles, early childhood music, and community outreach.

Position Summary

The Fund Development Coordinator will lead efforts to grow the Preucil School of Music’s donor base and build long-term fundraising systems. This new, half-time position offers an exciting opportunity to work from a strong foundation of community goodwill and engaged supporters. The ideal candidate is a skilled relationship-builder — someone who enjoys connecting with donors and community members and brings energy, empathy, and professionalism to their work.

This role is designed for a mission-driven professional who is eager to shape a development program and grow with the organization. Some administrative support is available to assist with data entry, mailings, and event logistics. The position has strong potential to expand into a full-time role after 1-2 years.

Responsibilities

Initial Priorities (First 12–18 Months)

• Develop and execute a clear, achievable annual fundraising plan
• Build and strengthen relationships with donors, families, alumni, and community supporters
• Coordinate donor communications and stewardship efforts
• Collaborate with administrative staff to maintain donor records and generate reports
• Work with staff, board, and the Preucil Guild on fundraising events and giving campaigns
• Support targeted appeals (e.g., year-end giving, scholarships)

Long-Term Growth Goals (As Position Expands)

• Manage and expand a portfolio of major donors and legacy giving prospects
• Research and support grant applications and institutional funding
• Lead or support larger-scale fundraising initiatives and capital campaigns
• Advance the school’s culture of philanthropy through community engagement and storytelling

Qualifications

• Minimum education: bachelor’s degree
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor relations, or community engagement
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; confident in community-facing roles
• Proven ability to work independently and set priorities
• Strategic thinker with a collaborative and adaptable approach
• Familiarity with donor database systems (e.g., Bloomerang, Little Green Light, or similar)
• Appreciation for music education and the mission of the Preucil School

Work Environment

• Flexible hours within the business day (8am-5pm), with some evening/weekend availability for events
• On-site preferred; occasional hybrid work will be considered
• Part-time, year-round position with strong potential for growth
• Administrative support provided
